One of the greatest leaders & thinkers; Tarek El Kady - the empath, the visionary, the creative - taken from us so soon that it hasn't really sunk in yet.
While many of my colleagues mourn the loss of a friend of 20+ years, I find myself, 8 years into my menteeship with him - wishing we had more time; one more debate over a creative direction, one more thrilling argument over a concept... but, really, just one more moment to thank him for all he has taught me. Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for patience.
There is a certain sting, I'm learning, to losing a leader; not least an invincible figure whose work transcends timezones and borders - the pain of which will remain entrenched, hopefully eventually translating itself into inspiration for the work we do, dedicated to his hard work & passion for the brand.
To say it was an absolute pleasure to know him is the understatement of the century. & wherever my professional life takes me, one thing's for sure; I'll be thinking to myself "What would Tarek do?" for years to come. & I hope he'll lend me the answer.
Rest in eternal peace.
